I strive to capture the moments of intersection between individuals in both personal and societal realms. Stories emerge from the crevices between subjectivity and objectivity, appearance and essence - Xue Fei
On view through April 6th, Wonderland opens with work by Xue Fei, an artist based in Shanghai, China whose work a Shanghai based artist whose work reveals the essence of the human subconscious depicted through storytelling and emotion.
Within her paintings, Xue Fei masterfully weaves a narrative that intertwines memory, fairytales, and myths. Her visual representation invites audiences to explore a contemporary anecdotal world-view rooted in the human subconscious. Each artwork grants a sense of everydayness to the story scenes, leading viewers on a journey alongside vastly distinctive creatures of her creation.
Xue observes the struggles or acceptance of self-identity in individuals' lives and dreams, forming a fragment or a process within the worth of individual behavior. From internal personal struggles to external conflicts in societal interactions, there exists a gap between individual perceptions and genuine inevitabilities. The morality, good and evil, within the value of individual behavior influences each present choice. Each moment is shaped by the interpretation of life, whether derived from past memories or predictions of the future, all continually happening in a metaphorical narrative.
Through a warm yet harsh metaphor, she expresses the desolation and uncertainty within relationships, seeking to understand the role Xue is currently playing, the actions she is taking, and the interconnectedness involved in the construction of reality and history.
