Displacement and Belonging: Inaugural Exhibition Opening Reception

200 Technology Drive, Irvine 17:30 - 19:30 unveilgallery.com

Co-founders Lorraine Han and Dan Yang are pleased to announce the launch of Unveil Gallery at 200 Technology Drive, Suite F, Irvine, CA 92618, on September 23, 2023.

Han's interpretation of "Unveil" encapsulates the essence of revealing and showcasing artists from diverse background and their compelling artwork. This endeavor is driven to nurture resonance, inspire meaningful dialogue, and extend artistic exploration beyond boundaries. The partners deliberately established their base in Orange County, responding to the growing demand for authentic and contemporary art encounters. This decision was prompted by the region's comparative scarcity of contemporary art galleries compared to Los Angeles, enhancing their mission to bring unique art experiences to a vibrant and receptive audience. As the newly redesigned Orange County Museum of Art reopens and injects a revitalizing spirit into the local art scene, Unveil Gallery is enthusiastic about actively fostering and embracing the local contemporary ecosystem.

As experienced art professionals, Han and Yang intend to amplify diverse voices and provide a platform for emerging and established regional, national, and international artists. Their inaugural exhibition, Displacement and Belonging, opens with work on view by Shuling Guo, Bing Liu, LaRissa Rogers, and Fei Xue, four women artists with unique backgrounds. Guo, Liu, and Xue were born in China; Rogers is African American and Korean. While Liu and Xue remained in China, with studios in Beijing and Shanghai, respectively, Guo emigrated to the United States and settled on the East Coast. Rogers lives and works in Los Angeles. They are united by diasporic experiences, facing the challenges associated with moving from their places of birth to new, larger cities or other continents to pursue their careers and, in the process, make sense of their identities as women and artists. The exhibition includes painting, installation, sculpture, and drawing.

Unveil Gallery aims to foster a vibrant art community, offering educational opportunities and a platform for cultural appreciation. Lorraine Han and Dan Yang believe art is integral to our identity, shared memories, and understanding of one another. Art transcends time and ideologies, uniting communities and amplifying voices that resonate through generations. Unveil Gallery aspires to enrich lives and weave the fabric of social connection and understanding in Orange County and its broader horizon.

A Reception for Displacement and Belonging will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023, 5:30-7:30 PM. The exhibition will be on view through November 9, 2023.
